For most people, new years mean new beginnings. New adventures, new challenges, new friendships, new goals, new realizations; it’s all part of our human nature to go after whatever’s fresh. Whether he planned it or not, Enny O, who plays his Plei App footy in South Florida, is our latest POTM champion! With 24 games played throughout January, he officially earns the title of our first champion of 2023! 🥇
Don’t be mistaken, though, as this was not any normal feat. Enny’s efforts to start the New Year were enough to beat out the legendary Michael J (who played the most pickup games in all of 2022) and other familiar faces from past monthly leaderboards to the title. We applaud Enny for this achievement, and we hope to see him continue to enjoy the Plei App for many more months to come! 👊
Speaking of Michael, he didn’t let himself go unnoticed in the first month of the year. With 22 games played, he takes2nd place for the month of January! However, he is not alone in that placement. 😳 Both Javi P (who makes the Top 15 for a 3rd month in a row 🙌) and Francesco V also played 22 games this past month, and since our normal tiebreaker is games played for the entire year, we can’t separate them! Therefore, all 3 South Floridians earn the 2nd place prize of 2 free game credits and 2 free shirts. 🥈
Since we have a modified leaderboard for January in which our 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed players all receive 2nd place honors, we technically don’t have official 3rd or 4th placements. However, we want to make it clear that regardless of the modifications made to the placements of the players in our Top 15, prizes given would still be the same.
That being said, Oscar A and Nathan V, both from South Florida and both with 20 games played in January, place 5th and 6th, respectively. They, along with the rest of the Top 15, will each receive 1 free game credit and 1 free shirt! 👏
Plenty of familiar faces made the Top 15 in January! Rakin S, who is also a Plei App veteran who’s been playing pickup games with us since February 2019, finished 7th with 18 games played. It should be noted that everyone from 7th to 12th place all played 18 games as well, which tells us that this past month was pretty competitive! 😅 These players are Bryan C (8th), Yussef G (9th and marking his 3rd consecutive Top 15 appearance), Guillermo M (10th), Eugenio E (11th) and Roberto G (12th).
It was a month of new faces as well, as Eugenio and Roberto both only joined the Plei App at the beginning of January. What a way to introduce yourself to our growing pickup soccer community! 💪
Although in recent months we have seen victors emerge from regions like Dallas and Houston, the trophy has once again returned to South Florida. 🌴 This doesn’t mean there isn’t competition from other regions, though! Orlando, Dallas, Houston and St. Louis are just a few regions that had plenty of representation in the Top 100 this past month. The Plei App is growing everyday, and with that growth comes more competition. That being said, which will be the next region to be represented by a Plei App champion? 🤔
We want to shout out the last 3 players that made our Top 15: August 2022 champion Felix A (13th) and new faces Eric R (14th) & Yaco A (15th)! 🙌
We love to highlight the growing diversity of the Plei App community. A total of 38 different countries filled up our top 100 in January, with 12 of those countries being represented in the top 15. Overall, 130+ unique nationalities represented the entire Plei App this past month. The “Beautiful Game” in the flesh!

Every month, we will be celebrating our Top 15 players based on games played:
4th through 15th placed players will receive 1 free game credit and 1 free shirt
2nd and 3rd placed players will receive 2 free game credits and 2 free shirts
The #1 player of the month will receive3 free Plei App dry fits to wear at the games plus 3 free game credits
Overall, our Top 15 players played a total of 289 times between them in January. And our Top 100 players of the month played a total of 1,326 times!
