Way back in July 2019, the Plei App expanded outside Florida for the first time, partnering with multiple facilities in Houston, Texas. 🚀 Our latest addition to our Houston Soccer Network is Crossbar Academy. We hosted our first game there on January 19! We are looking forward to maintaining this partnership for many years to come. As part of our new blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬
Located in the Northwest Houston, TX area in a relatively small town called Tomball is a special kind of facility that, despite offering three different soccer fields and an entire academy/school for youth development, doesn't actually prioritize the beautiful game.
At this point, you might be wondering to yourself, “why would I want to play somewhere that doesn’t even put soccer first?”
That’s because, believe it or not, there are more important things in life than the sport we all cherish. It might be hard to admit at first, but we all get there eventually. Why is this the case, you may ask? Because for the kids, parents, coaches and staff that walk through the doors of Crossbar Academy everyday, God and family come first.
That being said, the mission of Crossbar Academy is to put God before anything else in life. After that comes family, and in third place, soccer and education. They strongly believe that when your priorities are put straight and you strive to work hard and pursue excellence in all areas of our daily lives, amazing results are sure to follow.
One of the most appealing aspects of Crossbar is that not only are they a soccer school, but they also specialize in academics. They provide interactive classrooms where young student-athletes will learn via a blend of traditional in-person teaching as well as through an online academy provided by Liberty University. The schedule here is also intentionally designed so that students have time for devotionals and worship.
Young Crossbar athletes are provided with sufficient mental training and spiritual teaching so that in the face of adversity, they can remain strong. Simply put, the kids are given the tools to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat, values that athletes all across the world ought to be taught. Although we all walk unique lives, one thing remains common for all of us: failure is necessary in order to grow and succeed.
Let’s get down to the footy details. Crossbar Academy features a total of three (3) fields, including one (1) 6v6 field under a pavilion and two (2) 11v11 fields, all made with high-quality turf for optimal performance. Trust us when we say that the fields here are beautiful.
Seating areas are also provided in case you bring guests or if you want to take a break from the pickup soccer action yourself. Parking is also free and easily accessible.
We won’t dive too deep into the history of this facility, but it sure is worth briefly mentioning. The founders of Crossbar are actually soccer dads who, like most parents of student-athletes across the country, found that a lot of their family time got eaten up by going to and from soccer practices and games.
So they decided to sit down and discuss ways to remedy this situation. They love soccer, but is it still worth it when it’s at the expense of everything else?
They looked towards the examples of other countries and how the beautiful game is basically second nature and fully implemented into the schools and academies. Then they looked at sports like gymnastics and how it has been successful in the United States.
Inspired by these examples, the dads got to work, and Crossbar Academy was born. Finding a way to put God first, increase time with family and produce excellence in both academics and soccer for their kids are the successes of Crossbar that make this facility truly special.
