On March 1, 2020, we announced the Plei App’s entrance into its third market, Orlando, FL! 🎢 We were so excited to finally welcome Central Florida to our family, but as luck would have it, the pandemic happened. 😭 We waited patiently (and we know our Orlando ballers were waiting patiently too) until finally in January 2021, we relaunched! 🔥
In March 2021, we began a brand new partnership with XL Soccer World and started hosting games at their two facilities, and we are looking forward to continuing doing so for many years to come. As part of our new blog series, we will be highlighting all of our partner facilities in every region where Plei has touched down. 🛬
If you’ve lived in Central Florida for a while, you’ve probably witnessed firsthand how soccer has exploded in popularity in Orlando over the last decade or so. It all culminated in 2013 when Orlando City SC completed its upgrade to an official MLS franchise and began play in March 2015, with the founding of women’s side Orlando Pride happening just a few months later. But in truth, it would not have been possible without genuine love for the beautiful game from across the entire region years prior.
A city that loves soccer must also have the resources to back it up, and that means no more subpar soccer parks and cheaply-built sporting facilities. A place like Orlando had to step up their game if they’re going to have teams competing in the MLS and the NWSL. Safe to say that, in the last 8 years, they’ve done exactly that.
XL Soccer World is one of these establishments that has been at the forefront of the sudden Orlando footy craze of the 2010s. They first stepped foot in Central Florida back in 2010 with their Winter Park facility, and since late 2020 are also running a beautiful Lake Nona location.
Before expanding to over 10 locations across the United States, XL Winter Park was actually the company’s second establishment. It opened in 2010, two years after XL’s debut facility in Raleigh, NC, and instantly became a game-changer in the Orlando soccer scene. ⚡
Located just a short eight minute drive from downtown, XL’s Winter Park venue has held a heavy presence in the region throughout the last decade, and it’s easy to see why. Covering six acres of land, this 40,000 square foot, fully-air conditioned facility not only offers indoor fields, but also outdoor.
This is a sharp contrast from the newer Lake Nona facility that is completely indoor and takes up slightly less space, but it does make sense when you consider that XL Winter Park is the primary location.
The two indoor fields are sized for 7v7 play and are made with the highest quality 4G turf that you won’t find at your average soccer facility. Meanwhile, their two outdoor fields for 6v6 play are made with even better 5G turf, which can be combined to make a larger 9v9 field to accommodate rentals and special events.
Realistically, outdoor play at XL Winter Park is where it's at, because that’s still not all they have. If you took a look at the above photo, you may have already noticed that there is a full-size 11v11 grass field, which is brand new by the way, as well as a stunning light blue futsal court for 5v5. Talk about having options.
